Exterior paintwork takes more punishment than anything else in a home — Gloucestershire weather, ageing render, and finishes that were already failing when we arrived. We start every exterior job by repairing what’s underneath: masonry cleaned and made good, stitch-and-mesh repairs to cracked brickwork, and render patches where the old render has let go. Only then do we paint, using breathable exterior paint that lets walls shed moisture instead of trapping it.
The result is an exterior that looks crisp from the street and keeps the weather out — windows, fascias and trim included. You can see the difference below, including full repaints where we took walls back to sound material before refinishing.

Do you repair render and masonry before painting?
Always. Painting over failed render or cracked masonry just hides the problem for a season. We clean and repair first — stitch-and-mesh repairs, render patches, renewal back to the brickwork where needed — then decorate.
